Based on your grocery comparison it seems that the weekly cost of grocery would be 46 LE that also without any meat. I wonder how a public school teacher can survive on their monthly salary. Maybe the American public school teachers should take a peek around world and consider themselves lucky to be teaching in America. Mami

To pick up from where Maria left off... American teachers should also be aware that teachers in many countries manage to teach not only on a low salary but also with meager resources. They find ways to educate eager, young minds who are grateful for the knowledge.

A lot of people in a lot of countries find ways to do things without the luxuries that we find in America. Does that mean, however, that it's right for American teachers to be treated as less than professional, as they often are? As a former teacher and wife of a teacher I KNOW that the majority of American teachers find "ways to educate eager, young minds who are grateful for the knowledge," often spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year of their own money to do so (at least I and most of my coworkers did).

Teachers are always treated as professionals, but receive less respect from students and parents when compared to other countries. When you look at the number of teachers in the US, a very small percent of them spend their own money towards supplies such as books and materials that classrooms lack. They consider it to be the the resposibility of the school and government. Can you truly say that in a classroom of 30 students, in a hetrogenous grouping most minds are eager to learn. In my opinion the students do not value education as much. Reading Three Cups of Tea by David Mortenson might help us to see what is teaching and learning suppose to be like.
